First snowfall in Utah. The resorts are not going to open for a few more weeks. We will definitely run up the mountain for perhaps one last alpine bop of the season. Before there is too much snow and before no uphill traffic is allowed. We are tapping into the shoulder season, and soon enough the world will turn into a cold, dark place and we will reminisce on the bright and sunny days.
It almost sounds like there is no joy in winter running. When, in reality, I personally wait all summer for the short, cold days to arrive. There is nothing more peaceful (once you brave the cold) than running around on the trails covered in the white blanket. Now, of course, a lot of places are off limit- like Brighton or Alta. But you also don’t need to wake up at a crack of dawn to enjoy yourself before you melt and turn into a fried pile of sweat. Although, I suppose you should find beauty in everything and everywhere, right?
Another winter hack is to layer up. And bring all the color. So even on the darkest, bleak days, you can bring the energy onto the trails. And invite a friend. Life is always better with company.
Not to mention, those are the tips that will help your dear local photographer (that would be me) in creating visually interesting images.
Have fun out there!
And stay warm.
Shot for fun with Valerie and Jackie.
