MILES FOR SORAYA MEMORIAL RUN
Two weekends ago I had the honor of taking photos of the first annual Miles for SoRaya race, a tribute to Deshawna’s daughter, SoRaya, who tragically lost her life in a distracted driving accident.
The event took place in Canyon de Chelly, sacred land that resonates deeply in the hearts of Dene people.
As an ultra runner, Deshawna is used to navigating resilience, endurance and pain. As a mother, Deshawna was compelled to turn her grief into a powerful action by organizing the memorial in SoRaya’s name to raise awareness of distracted driving and to gather the community to commemorate her daughter.
Deshawna’s strength shines through every mile, keeping SoRaya’s memory alive.
Canyon de Chelly, Arizona.
Big thanks to this beautiful community for inviting me and letting me document Miles for SoRaya Memorial Run.
