RED DESERT TRAIL CAMP

This past November, I had the privilege of documenting a women’s trail running camp in Moab, Utah.

It was a truly unique experience, capturing the remarkable connection that formed among a group of women united by their shared love for trail running.

These women came from diverse backgrounds, spanning different ages, sizes, and hometowns. Yet, over the course of five days—facing the challenges of running through the desert—they transformed into more than just friends. By the end of the camp, they had become trail sisters.

Trail running fosters a unique and special community—one where shared pain and triumph forge deep bonds. We push ourselves to finish, but just as importantly, we cheer for others to succeed.

What makes trail running such an extraordinary sport is how it connects us to nature and each other. Through the challenges of blisters, scraped knees, and sweat, our hearts grow bigger and more open. Suddenly, we find ourselves fully present—in the moment, in the landscape, and in our relationships.

This is exactly what the Red Desert Trail Camps offered to the women who participated. It’s why these memories will remain etched in their hearts forever.
